Northern Link Survey Group facilitates Private Utility Locates and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services to help clients understand what’s buried below the surface before breaking ground. Whether as part of a full survey package or as a standalone deliverable, our utility locating services reduce risk, prevent costly conflicts, and improve project outcomes.
Public utility locates (via Ontario One Call) identify utilities owned by major service providers. However, they do not capture private utilities located on commercial, industrial, institutional, or multi-unit residential sites.
Our Private Locate Services fill that gap by identifying buried utilities that are typically the owner’s responsibility, such as:
We use electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to locate, trace, and mark these lines with high accuracy.
Deliverables include:
SUE services take utility investigation a step further by defining the exact position, depth, and characteristics of buried infrastructure. Following ASCE 38-02/ASCE 38-22 standards, SUE deliverables are classified from Quality Level D (records-based) to Quality Level A (exposed and surveyed).
Applications include:
SUE work can be provided as an appendment to your existing survey data or integrated directly into Northern Link’s Boundary and Topographic Surveys for a complete picture of both surface and subsurface conditions.
If you’re planning a design, excavation, or redevelopment project, contact us to discuss how Private Locates or SUE services can add value to your next survey.
